On Friday, Barton published a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) in which he argued that women should not provide commentary or analysis on men's football as they have no experience playing it, and that women have 'taken over' football broadcasting. His views received widespread condemnation as sexist and misogynistic.
WHAT ALEX SCOTT SAID
Scott said when wrapping up her presenting duties at the Emirates Stadium: "To all the women in football, in front of the camera, behind it, to the players on the pitch, to everyone that attends games, keep being the role models that you continue to be.
"To all those young girls that are told 'no you can't', football is a better place with us all in it."
WHAT NEXT FOR SCOTT AND BARTON?
After sharing his views on women, Barton also claimed that he is "ready for the race conversation" in response the backlash he has faced on social media. While he continues his bid to stay in the headlines, Scott and all the other women covering men's football will do their best to block out the outside noise and focus on their work.
