Rising American winger Mathis Albert will be part of Borussia Dortmund's squad for the Club World Cup this summer, sources told GOAL, after the teenager signed a new contract with the club amid interest from some of the world's top teams.

Sources confirmed to GOAL that Albert's new deal is one that will see him largely feature for the second team next season in Germany's fourth tier. It is expected that Albert will be working towards a possible debut with the first team when he comes of age. To date, only nine Bundesliga players have made their debuts before turning 17. Albert turned 16 on May 21.

Dortmund, though, are set to include Albert as part of their Club World Cup squad this summer, a sign of just how highly viewed the American is within the club. Meanwhile, outsiders view the winger highly as well, as Albert is also continuing to command interest from some of the world's top clubs, GOAL can confirm. The same sources also mentioned that clubs in the Premier League are eyeing a potential move for when Albert turns 18.

Bild was the first to report news of Albert's contract while listing Manchester City, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich among those interested in the teenager.

Albert, who was able to move to Europe early due to his possession of French and German citizenship, joined Dortmund's academy in 2024 after previously playing in the LA Galaxy's youth system. He featured regularly for the club up to the U-19 level despite being just 15 years old, scoring 10 goals while providing six assists this season across multiple different Dortmund youth teams. Additionally, he became the seventh-youngest player to ever score in the UEFA Youth League when he netted at just 15 years, five months, and 15 days against Sturm Graz last November.

Albert is widely seen as one of the more promising players in the German side's youth setup. Should he break through at Dortmund, Albert will have the chance to join Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, Cole Campbell, and Jovan Kirovski as Americans to feature for the club.
