02-Jul-2001A Delhi Court today rejected former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar’splea for bail and sent him to a day’s transit remand to facilitate hisproduction before a magistrate at Haldwani, after he was arrested byUttaranchal Police here in connection with a fraud and cheating case.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) VK Maheshwari, whileaccepting the Uttaranchal police plea for transit remand of Prabhakar,said he should be produced tomorrow before Haldwani JudicialMagistrate Ashok Kumar, who had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW)against him on May 11.Prabhakar sought interim bail so that he could move the UttaranchalHigh Court against the issuance of the NBW. The ACMM rejectedPrabhakar’s plea for interim bail after the prosecution counsel saidthe issue before the court today was limited to his transit remand andnot the merit of the case.Prabhakar’s counsel Rajesh Batra sought interim bail for his client onthe ground that he had already been granted bail in a related case byUttaranchal High Court earlier.Uttaranchal police arrested Prabhakar from his office at Malviya Nagarin South Delhi this morning, while executing the NBW issued inconnection with chit fund company APACE Investment Ltd case. Thepolice allege that Prabhakar as director of the company had defraudedand cheated people while it accepted deposits from them.Prabhakar, while coming out ot the court, said "I am not involved inthe case and I have nothing to do with APACE. I am not involved inany scam whatsoever."
